Season of mists and mellow fruitfulness,
Close bosom-friend of the maturing sun;
This week we've been helping a lot of people lay plans to come to Cambridge, and we've also seen the leadership of the community planning to work together more closely.
The Cambridge Corporate Gateway is a well established window into our innovative community, so its no surprise that Ericsson, PepsiCo and Vontarim are sending corporate scouts over for the sessions in late October, and that other companies are booking in. That gives us a great opportunity to introduce local companies and help them make deals. BASF invested $23M in a local company that they met through Corporate Gateway. But it is also nice to see old visitors engaging further. Samsung Semiconductor came to Corporate Gateway a few years ago, and they have now become members and are running their own event on the 15th of October which will showcase some of their technology alongside some of their long-standing partners, CSR, Nokia Research Centre and the University of Cambridge Centre for Applied Photonics and Electronics.
Local CEOs are also getting together to learn from each other. We set up the Cambridge Leaders Academy to put CEOs into a small group where they can really dig into some of the core issues of their companies with the help of high-profile experts and critique from their peers. We are running a taster session with Gareth Jones on the afternoon of 30th September and it is great to see CEOs and Division Heads from fast growth and successful companies such as ARM, CSR, Jagex, PA and Ubisense already coming along and other companies looking for delegates to attend. All of these people run units with turnover of >£1M and more than 20 staff - so it is wonderful that they are making the time to learn and grow together.
Cambridge is a small town and it is quick for people to get together, but sometimes we are too busy to connect. It is great to be able to help make those connections happen with such busy people.
